Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State says the All Progressives Congress, APC, expects its new leadership to work for the unity of the party and of the nation.
Former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, and former Senate Spokesman, Ajibola Basiru, were on Thursday in Abuja, elected National Chairman and National Secretary respectively at the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the APC.
Continue hard work
Governor Alia, who spoke to State House correspondents after a private meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the new Executive Committee of the APC led by Ganduje would be expected to continue the hard work of the former leadership.
“For the unity of the party; unity of the nation; primarily, and then to continue the hard work that was also done in the past. We need continuity.
“We have this regime; this renewed hope we all have to make our nation continually great. There is nothing less that is expected from the new leadership, either.
“And we are hoping they’re quite a good cream that is brought into the scope of the leadership and I believe they are not going to give us anything less. We trust them.”
Homage to Vice President.
Alia said that he came to the Villa just to pay homage to the Vice President after the APC Caucus meeting of Wednesday and the NEC meeting on Thursday.
Passion for Benue
He said that the vice president has passion for Benue as an agrarian state.
“He’s been very supportive of Benue. He has a very good passion for the state. He is someone whose leaning is in agriculture as well.
“Remember, Benue is the food basket of the nation. So, we need everyone with the thinking and with the actions that can help us to move from grace to grace in terms of food and food security and basic state security.
He added that it was his reason for coming to the Villa.
