Weekly Trading opens with 0.04% ASI loss

The Nigerian equities market began the week on a negative note on Monday as the all share index dropped by 0.04% to close at 105,891.33 points which is 41.70 points lower than the 105,933.03 points recorded at the close of trading last week.

Despite the decline, the market capitalisation however rose by N477 billion to close at N66.07 trillion as against N65.5 trillion recorded last Friday.

The market sentiment remained positive from last week as trading closed with 45 gainers and 25 losers.

Top on the gainers list for the day were Beta Glass Company with 10% price appreciation to close at N95.15k per share closely followed by Stanbic IBTC Holdings and Smart Products Nigeria also with 10% price gain and closing prices of N68.20k and N0.22k respectively.

On the other hand, International Energy Insurance led the losers chart with a price decline of 10% to close at N2.25k per share.

It was followed by RT Briscoe, which lost 9.63% to close at N2.44k, and Julius Berger Nigeria lost 8.44% to close at N128.00.

The highest volume of shares for the day was recorded by Secure Electronic Technology at 84.1 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank with 67.8 million shares.

In all, a total of 557.288 million shares valued at N10.413 billion were traded in 17,843 deals on Monday.
