Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo emerged from his screening on Tuesday exuding confidence that the All Progressives Congress, APC, has an edge over other political parties in next year’s general election.
The vice president was one of the aspirants of the APC screened in Abuja as the party prepares for its national convention coming up early next week.
“Of course, we are ahead of any party; way, way ahead. APC is ahead,” Osinbajo stated after the screening.
He was responding to a reporter’s question on the chances of the APC at the election, considering that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has picked former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, as its flag bearer.
Vice President Osinbajo said that the screening, which was held behind closed doors, went very well.
He said, “We were able to discuss several issues; issues of national and party concerns. It went very well indeed. We had a very good chat.”
Another aspirant of the APC who was screened on Tuesday was former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole.
He also told reporters that the screening went on smoothly.
On the issue of a consensus candidate, Bankole said he would “do whatever the party decides.”
Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Goodswill Akpabio was also screened on Tuesday.
The Screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress, headed by former Chairman of the party, Odigie Oyegun began the exercise on Monday.
Former Governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu; and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, were among those screened on Monday.
