WhatsApp Announces Broadcast Message Limits to Fight Spam
WhatsApp announced plans to limit broadcast messages for both individual users and businesses to tackle spam on the platform.
Starting in the coming weeks, the company will test a monthly cap on individual broadcasts, with an example limit of 30 messages per month during the trial period.
Meta suggested that users wanting to reach larger audiences could instead use Status updates or channels.
For businesses, WhatsApp intends to introduce similar restrictions. Business accounts, which previously enjoyed unlimited broadcast messages for free, will soon see a paid version of the feature with additional tools.

In the pilot phase, merchants will receive 250 customised messages free, after which additional messages will incur a charge.
Pricing details are yet to be finalised. Businesses will also gain access to features like message scheduling and tailored broadcasts for product updates or holiday promotions.
WhatsApp aims to balance user experience by reducing spam while still allowing occasional broadcast messages.
The platform has already introduced measures like daily limits on marketing messages and an “unsubscribe” feature to improve inbox management.
As WhatsApp Business becomes a growing revenue driver for Meta, the new paid broadcast messaging feature marks one of the first monetisation options for businesses outside of API-based services.
These updates coincide with a redesign of the WhatsApp Business app logo, signaling continued innovation in Meta’s business communication ecosystem.
