The World Health Organization Nigeria office, joined by the Federal Ministry of Health, partners and the public have staged the third edition of the Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge.
This is the third edition of the global Walk the Talk and the first since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the WHO Country Representative in Nigeria, Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo, the walk aims to raise awareness on health issues such as Non Communicable Diseases, NCDs, and need for exercises.
It is also an opportunity to gather safely to promote solidarity and a healthy lifestyle.
He said that the significance of the walk is to raise awareness and remind Nigerians to be active so as to reduce the burden of NCDs through physical activities.
“Today is an opportunity to get everybody on board to beat the burden of Non Communicable Diseases which are on the increase. The whole significance of today’s walk is to raise awareness to remind Nigerians that we need to be active to beat NCDs. We are suppose to be active everyday at least for thirty minutes” Dr Mulombo said.
He also said that the Walk the Talk event marks the beginning of activities of the World Health Assembly.
He said that the focus for the 2022 World Health Assembly is “Health for peace and peace for health”.
He added that peace is at the centre of everything people do and “without peace, there’s no health”.
