In a statement released today, WHO emphasized its critical role in protecting global health and security, including the health of Americans.

The organization highlighted its efforts in addressing the root causes of diseases, strengthening health systems, and responding to health emergencies in challenging environments worldwide.

The United States, a founding member of WHO since 1948, has been instrumental in shaping the organization’s work. Over the past seven decades, WHO and the U.S. have collaborated to save countless lives, eradicating smallpox and nearly eliminating polio.

WHO noted the significant contributions made by American institutions, which have both benefited from and supported the organization’s efforts.

WHO pointed out the extensive reforms implemented in recent years to enhance accountability, cost-effectiveness, and country-level impact, emphasizing that the collaboration with the U.S. has been pivotal in these advancements.

“We hope the United States will reconsider and look forward to engaging in constructive dialogue to maintain this vital partnership,” WHO stated, underscoring the shared responsibility for global health and the well-being of millions worldwide.
