WHO reports 21% increase in COVID-19 deaths

The World Health Organisation on Wednesday said the global number of COVID-19 deaths during the previous week increased by 21 per cent.

The Geneva-based agency said, so far, more than four million people worldwide were confirmed to have died from the viral infection.

Most of the 69,000 new deaths were reported in the Americas and Southeast Asia, according to the data.

The number of infections reported last week was 3.8 million, up 8 per cent from the previous week.
