Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid’s latest single, “Dance,” has made a dramatic return to Apple Music’s Top 100 after mysteriously disappearing from the chart for seven hours. The sudden removal sparked speculation among fans and industry observers, with theories ranging from technical glitches to potential scrutiny for streaming manipulation.

The song reclaimed the top spot on the chart less than seven hours after dropping out of the top 100, reportedly due to a penalty for suspected streaming manipulation.

Apple Music typically removes songs suspected of streaming manipulation from its charts, deducts the manipulated streams, and then reinstates the song at its rightful chart position, unaffected by any fraudulent activity.

This precedent suggests that Wizkid’s “Dance” may have been subject to the same process, as it still had sufficient streams to reclaim the top spot.

However, some have attributed the song’s sudden disappearance from the chart to a potential glitch on Apple Music’s platform.

Nonetheless, there is no definitive evidence explaining its removal, though precedence strongly points to it undergoing scrutiny for streaming irregularities.

The incident has only heightened excitement for Wizkid’s upcoming album, Morayo, scheduled for release on November 22, 2024.
