Women in Science: Parliament Member Urges Girl-Child’s Confidence
In commemoration of the 2025 International Day for Women and Girls in Science, Kwallam Amos, a member of the Adamawa Children’s Parliament, has urged the girl-child to always have self-confidence in order to succeed.
Amos made this call on Tuesday during the event, organised by the parliament with support from Save the Children International (SCI) in Dumne, Song Local Government of Adamawa state.
Amos stated that the theme of the commemoration, ‘‘Women and Girls in Science Leadership – A New Era for Sustainability’’, is apt, considering the lack of opportunities given to women in leadership.
She advocated for the inclusion of women in governance to promote girl-child education and provide them with the opportunity to contribute to society with the confidence needed for a better future.
Abdurasheed Mohammed, SCI Team Lead, called on parents and teachers to redouble their efforts in harnessing science to ensure women and girls are fully involved in the field.

Mohammed, who was represented by Mr Amos Farisa, Advocacy and Campaign Focal Person, stated that gender equality in science is crucial for building a better future for all.
He urged teachers and parents to change their attitudes and eliminate biases against girls pursuing scientific careers.
Mr Kaduna Nelson, Principal of Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Dumne, expressed appreciation to the Children’s Parliament and SCI for hosting the event at the school.
He noted that it was the first of its kind at the institution and called for more of such engagements.
Nelson also encouraged the students to remain committed to their studies to secure future success.
The parliament, with the support of SCI, donated learning and sporting materials to the school.
