Women Journalists advocate gender equity at workplaces

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ in Collaboration with Norwegian Journalists is organizing a 3-day training for Female Journalists on Gender Equality and Safety in workplaces.

 

The NAWOJ National President, Comrade Ladi Bala Stated this during the Opening ceremony of the training at Monabliss Hotel in Abakaliki the Ebonyi State Capital.

 

Bala encouraged all female Journalists to always be ready to report any act of harassment against them.

 

She encouraged them to be dedicated to their duties at all times.

 

The wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Rachael Umahi represented by Mrs Patience Ofor Okorie thanked NAWOJ for organising such Educating Program.

 

 

The NAWOJ Chairperson Ebonyi State chapter, Comrade Nkechinyere Oginyi said,

“This workshop is geared towards empowering women journalists in the state with the necessary knowledge they need to excel in the Journalism industry and confront the challenges they encounter in the profession and continue to overcome those challenges.

 

“We mostly thank the National Chairman for bringing this program to Ebonyi State.”

 

Oginyi thanked the leadership of Nigeria Union Journalists, (NUJ) Ebonyi State, led by Comrade Tony Nwizi for his support and assistance to Ebonyi NAWOJ.

 

Donations

“Ebonyi NAWOJ, on June 24, 2021, donated food items to victims of herdsmen attack who were residing on Ebonyi/Benue boundary areas. We visited the victims at the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki where they were hospitalized and made the donation”

 

“We also sensitized the pupils of Democracy Primary and Nursery School, Aguogboriga Layout Abakaliki Ebonyi State, on Gender-Based Violence as part of the programmes marking 2021, 16 Days of Activism”. Oginyi added.

 

On his part, the State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation Barrister Orji Uchenna applauded Ebonyi NAWOJ and promise to ensure that the right of Women Journalists are protected.

 

The training started on the 9th of May and it is expected to end on the 11th  of May, 2022.
