Women in Nasarawa state are the target beneficiaries of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project which is set to begin in the state.
The state project coordinator of ACReSAL, Mr. Elias Napoleon stated this during an interview with Voice of Nigeria, in Lafia the state capital.
The project which has been earmarked for 19 Northern states to address climate and environmental factors affecting the lively hood of people is geared towards the implementation of sustainable landscape management practices in targeted watershed areas.
According to Elias, the project is a multi-sectorial engagement where relevant stakeholders would put their wealth of experience to come up with ideas to identify a project that would be effective in the state.
The project coordinator explains that women, youth, and the vulnerable are the target audience to benefit more from the project.
“ACReSAL will deal more with farmers, and women to reduce pressure on tree felling and forest encroachment,” he said.
“Women are the target beneficiaries because women in the north are good at irrigation farming, hence the need to encourage them with modern equipment for quality output.
“We intend to provide the women with farm inputs such as the irrigation facility like solar boreholes, and high technology farming equipment for their farming activities.
“We are also going to provide climate-revolving funds that would be used to improve their livelihood,” the Coordinator added.
