Working Conditions in Nollywood are unfriendly – Gideon Okeke
Nollywood actor Gideon Okeke has said that Actors in Nollywood work under unfriendly conditions.
Okeke said, for decades Actors have had to deal with financial constraints due to the regulations in the film industry that encourage exploitation.
The Actor said in a TV interview that the situation was very hurtful;
“In this ecosystem where I have come to play, I hope to play big but my shoes hurt,” Okeke said referring to the tough working conditions.
The actor further spoke of actors made to sign contracts forfeiting future payment for the use of their ‘likeness’.
Okeke’s statement comes days after a viral video of Nollywood veteran Fabian Adibe made headlines. The visually impaired actor claimed exploitation from Nollywood producers chased him from the industry.
Adibe had said in a viral video that he was paid as little as 20-30,000 Naira (less than 100 dollars) in the past, per script, forcing him to exit the film industry early.
