The Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Babangida Useni says the Ministry has commenced intensive monitoring and supervision of the Kaduna – Kano roads for an efficient job and timely delivery.
Mr. Useni made the statement during a recent site inspection of section 3 of the road, beginning from Zaria end to Kano being handled by Julius Berger Construction Company.
He said the supervision is in an effort to “identify gaps and funding challenges and resolve them in order to deliver one of the best roads in Africa, which is what President Muhammadu Buhari wants for the Nigerian people.
“We are giving an integrated approach to the project to ensure efficiency and timely delivery.”
“We are putting our contractors in check to make sure that what is on paper is what is on the ground,” said Mr. Useni.
He, however, said the level of work so far done on the highway is quite impressive as the contractor is working according to schedule.
Mr. Useni equally expressed satisfaction over the level of work done on the Kano – Katsina Western bypass being constructed by Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company, sponsored by the Federal government under SUKUK III.
“The Ministry is working with the Kano state government to remove all encumbrances so that the project can be completed in time,” he said.
On the Kano -Wudil 20 kilometre stretch, along Maiduguri road, the Permanent Secretary also said the project, which is near completion will be commissioned in the month of May this year for the benefit of all, especially business as Kano is a commercial city.
The Managing Director of Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company, Engineer Mukhtar Dantata said “the 20 kilometre road project will be opened for use in the month of May as stated because the company is putting final touches to the project.”
Mr. Useni while on the inspection, frowned at those doing business along Federal roads, especially washing of vehicles with water around shoulders of constructed roads.
He said they should understand that “water is the worst enemy of roads”
“How can Government spend so much of Taxpayers money and somebody will come to destroy it in the name of business,” queried Mr. Useni.
He urged people to stop mutilating the roads and take care of them like their own properties.
He said similar monitoring and supervision had been carried out in Adamawa and Gombe States for quick and productive delivery of democratic dividends to the people as desired by President Muhammadu Buhari.
