On the third day of the Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships, four (4) Nigerian athletes were in action, competing in the women’s 400m, men’s 400m hurdles, women’s 100m and men’s Shot Put.

Grace Nwokocha ran in the first heat of the women’s 100m semifinals, placing 4th with a time of 11.16s, the same time she ran to qualify for the semi-finals where her race was won by Shericka Jackson, the eventual World Silver medallist in the event.

Imaobong Nse Uko (Women’s 400m)

Imaobong Nse Uko who competed in the morning session, ran in the fourth heat of the women’s 400m, finishing in 8th place with a time of 52.80s.

The Nigerian athlete’s time of 52.80s wasn’t enough for her to advance to the semifinals in the women’s 400m. Marileidy Paulino took the win in 50.76s as Rhasidat Adeleke followed in 51.59s and Lynna Irby in third with 51.78s.

Nathaniel Ezekiel (Men’s 400m Hurdles)

Nathaniel Ezekiel looked poised for a great performance in the men’s 400mH semifinal, but he stumbled across the first barrier and lost momentum for the remaining part of the race.

Regardless, he managed to clear all the other barriers and finished the race in 54.18s.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi (Shot Put)

Nigeria’s only finalist on Day 3 was Chukwuebuka Enekwechi in the men’s Shot Put event at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi

Enekwechi’s throw of 20.16m and 20.65m was not enough to land him a spot in the final rounds of the event, and finished in 11th position in the men’s Shotput final.

The trio Americans Ryan, Joe, Josh took the sweep as Ryan threw a Championship Record of 22.94m to take the win.
