Switzerland booked its place in the knockout stages of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after securing a 3-2 victory against Serbia, at the Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar.
Serbia started with top strikers Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mistrovic in attack, with Dusan Tadic feeding the forwards. Switzerland had Breel Embolo up-front as Ruben Vargas and Xherdan Shaqiri supporting on the flanks.
Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri gave his side the lead with a deflected shot in the 20th minute, giving Serbia goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic no chance.
However, Serbia equalised through a header from striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. Serbia then took the lead when striker Dusan Vlahovic found the bottom corner to to make the scores 2-1.

Early in the second half, an excellent team goal was rounded off by midfielder Remo Freuler to make the scores 3-2 in favour of Switzerland.

Switzerland saw out the rest of the match as they stood firm in defence to claim a 3-2, leaving Serbia bottom of the group with only one (1) point.
Serbia nearly snatched an equaliser in the final seconds of stoppage time through substitute Nemanja Radonjic, but Switzerland held on to set up a meeting with Portugal for a place in the quarter-finals.
The Swiss finished second in Group G on goal difference with six (6)points, level with winners Brazil, whose were stunned 1-0 by Cameroon. Serbia, who needed a win to give themselves a chance of advancing, finished bottom of the group with only one (1) point.
