The senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, and Young Progressives Party (YPP) Candidate for the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial Election, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah has donated relief items to people living with disability in Anambra state, south east Nigeria.
To mark the World Disability Day, December 3 of every year, the theme of the year is :”Transformative Solutions For Inclusive Development: The Role Of Innovation In Fuelling An Accessible And Equitable World.”
The Senator, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, felicitated with the people with different forms of disabilities in the society.
The Senior Special Adviser to the Senator, Comrade Amobi Okonkwo while speaking, said the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which takes place on 3 December was first proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nation’s General Assembly resolution 47/3.
He said it was aimed at promoting and understanding disability issues and mobilise support for dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in the world.
“To bring transformative solutions for all inclusive development, Senator Ubah since 2014 till date,has imported and distributed advanced disability aides and/machines for people with disabilities,” he further stated.
This year,over 500 pieces of motorised tricycles, 1000 pieces of motorised and manual wheelchairs, clutches, brail machines ,laptops, special phones and other materials were distributed to the disabled persons in communities in Anambra state.
He said that those living with sickle cell anaemia were also not left behind in the Senator’s largesse.
According to Okonkwo,”senator Ubah in his good heart has also extended his benevolence to almost all the homes for the disables and vulnerable people both public, mission and private sectors in Anambra South Senatorial District.
Mr. Okonkwo said that the complex and interconnected crises facing humanity today in Anambra South includes the shock resulting from the insecurity in the state, especially in Anambra South which has posed more concern to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah as people in vulnerable situations are the most affected.
Comrade Okonkwo stated that his Principal,Senator Dr. Ubah has promised to use the instrument of legislature to collaboratively find innovative solutions for persons with disabilities to make the state a more accessible and equitable place.
“Senator Ubah have successfully facilitated employment of persons with disabilities in both public and private sectors and has promised to do more, through our supports towards his political movements, “ he noted.
Okonkwo concluded that Senator Ubah has provided various skill acquisitions and empowerment programs including mobility aides and appliances for people living with disabilities.
