The Nigerian Governing Party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been urged to be deliberate and take a decision that would kickstart the process to healing and peaceful cohesion in the country.
Convener of the Progressive Youth Group, PYG, Idris Jibril who made the call in a press statement, said the APC have won the battle, the task ahead is to rebuild trust and promote unity amongst all tribes, region and religion.
Mr Jibril added that “Having thoughtfully considered several factors and the greater good for all, the Progressive Youth Group (PYG) hereby endorse Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the next senate president of the 10th Assembly.”
He said the senate as a critical institution provides a crucible for balance of power within the system of government practiced in the country.
The Convener, noted that “the President-elect is from Southwest, Vice President-elect from Northeast, it is our fervent believe that the Senate President should come from the Southeast.”
The Group said the decision to support Senator Kalu is because he is a distinguished Nigerian leader, businessman, and philanthropist with a strong track record of achievements.
“He has contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria in various capacities, including serving as the Governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007”.
“During his tenure, he initiated several development projects in the state, such as the construction of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Abia State University School of Law, and the Abia State Polytechnic, among others.”
“As a business mogul, Senator Kalu has also made significant contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth, particularly in the oil and gas sector.”
“He is the Chairman of SLOK Holding, a conglomerate with interests in banking, shipping, and media, among other sectors. He has also used his position to empower Nigerian youths through his various philanthropic initiatives, such as the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation, which has provided scholarships, skills acquisition programs, and other forms of support to thousands of Nigerian youths.”
He added that as a youth-focused organization, the group is particularly impressed by Senator Kalu’s commitment to youth development and empowerment.
“He understands the importance of investing in young people and creating opportunities for them to thrive. His passion for youth development is evident in his various philanthropic initiatives, which have positively impacted the lives of thousands of Nigerian youths.”
“We believe that as Senate President, he will continue to prioritize youth development and empowerment, which is crucial to the country’s progress and development.”
“Furthermore, we believe that Senator Kalu’s emergence as Senate President will help to douse the tension in the Southeast region and foster unity and integration, “ he added.
Mr Jibril said following the tension in the southeast Senator Kalu’s leadership will bring about a new era of cooperation and collaboration in the Senate.
