Special Adviser on Community Affairs to the Chairman of Agboyi Ketu Local Council Development Area in Lagos State has organised free eye screening and surgery for the people living in the Community and its environment.
The youth leader, Prince Oluwaseun Balogun said he was motivated by the need to make healthcare services available to the grassroots, especially the people of his immediate community, Agboyi Ketu, collaborating with the youths of Agboyi Ketu and Eye Foundation Hospital.
He said; “Some people cannot afford eyes tests, glasses, and surgery. This is why we have brought it for them free of charge.
“As you can see, there is a large turn-out. Some people were here as early as 6 am, local time, to join the queue. Those with serious eye challenges like Cataracts have been booked to come on Wednesday for their surgeries. We bought the
glasses and paid for the tests and surgeries.”
He urged the government of Nigeria to look into the health sector by investing more in it, to relieve people of the economic challenges in the Country.
Balogun said; “I am glad to have achieved, impacted, and contributed to Mayor Dele Osinowo’s good work in our community. I use this medium to appreciate his immense support, guidance, and assistance in the success of this initiative for the good people of Agboyi Ketu LCDA.
“I am privileged to record 294 eyeglass beneficiaries, 36 Cataract surgery beneficiaries, 46 eye drops beneficiaries respectively. This represents the good work and zeal for the progress and development of Agboyi Ketu Community.”
The Youth leader commended the Chairman of the Local Government for giving him the platform to execute such a laudable project.
He enjoined the people of the community to keep up healthy lifestyles and bring up useful activities that can enhance the improvement of the community.
One of the beneficiaries of the health outreach, Afolarin Oluwanisola expressed his appreciation to Balogun, saying she was able to get her eyeglasses after she was
tested.
Oluwanisola however called on the government to make such opportunities available to the less privileged to improve their health.
“As we all know that the Country is very hard now and we all need to be intentional about our health because health is wealth,” she added.
A 10-year-old Hussein Mahmud, who also took part in the exercise, expressed his gratitude to the organiser of the event, saying his eyes were checked and he was given eye drops.
“I like the whole process,” he added.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Olawunmi Isaac commended the efforts of the organiser of the event and pleaded for more healthcare services provision by the government.
She said that a large percentage of Nigerians are battling health challenges from hypertension, Arthritis, and Abdominal Ulcer among others which could not be checked due to unaffordability.
