The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) within the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

This initiative aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and good governance within the Ministry.

At the inauguration ceremony, the Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director of Education and Youth Development (EYD), Mr. Kabir Mohammad, hailed the event as a significant milestone.

He expressed appreciation to the ICPC for its invaluable guidance in setting up the unit and acknowledged the Ministry’s staff for their commitment in making this initiative possible after the Ministry’s separation from the Ministry of Sports.

Mr. Mohammad urged the newly inaugurated ACTU members to perform their roles with integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to excellence, emphasising their crucial role in promoting transparency and accountability within the Ministry.

He also encouraged Heads of Departments and Units to collaborate with the ACTU, particularly in areas related to integrity and compliance, which are vital for the annual performance evaluations of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), in line with ICPC guidelines.

In his goodwill message, Mr. Olusegun Adigun, representing the ICPC Chairman, highlighted the ACTU’s importance in advancing the Ministry’s vision of empowering Nigerian youth for success.

He emphasised that the ACTU would play a strategic role in helping the Ministry achieve its objectives through its mandated responsibilities.

Mr. Adigun also advised the Ministry’s leadership to ensure the ACTU is represented in standing committees, in accordance with government guidelines outlined in the circular Ref No: OHCSF/SPSO/CSTD/314, dated October 5, 2016.
