The governorship candidate of Nigeria’s Young Progressives Party (YPP), Sir Paul Chukwuma, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force for what he described as the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday.
Chukwuma, who voted at Polling Unit 004, Ward 14, Umuleri II in the Anambra East Local Government Area, arrived at his polling station around 12:40 p.m. He spoke to Voice of Nigeria shortly before casting his ballot.
The YPP candidate praised the early commencement of voting and the prompt distribution of election materials across polling units, describing the process as “orderly and transparent.”
“The election commenced on time. Materials arrived on time. I commend INEC ,it shows the Commission’s commitment to this process,” Chukwuma said.
He also lauded the professional conduct of security personnel, noting that the visible presence of police officers contributed to a peaceful atmosphere throughout the exercise.
“I must commend the hierarchy of the police across the state, the election has been largely hitch-free from a security perspective,” he added.
A former aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chukwuma secured the YPP governorship ticket in April 2025, winning the party’s primary with 366 affirmative votes.
His campaign has centered on strengthening security, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and aligning Anambra State’s economic priorities with federal development goals.
Observers say the peaceful tone of Saturday’s poll marks a positive step for democratic consolidation in Nigeria’s Southeast region, where electoral tensions have often been a concern.
