To ensure a hitch-free 2025 yuletide season, “Operation Sweep Abuja” in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has extended its activities to night raids on major roads across various parts of Abuja, including Kubwa-Bwari, Gwagwalada-Abaji, and the Metro city center.

The night raid features intensified “stop and search” operations, which is a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Police and various sister agencies.

This, follows earlier Monday morning operations, with the team actively hunting for suspected dispatch riders involved in controlled substances by conducting stop-and-search procedures.

The Secretary, FCT Security Command and Control Centre, Dr. Peter Olumuji, explained that these checkpoints are designed to deter “one chance” operators and other criminals who seek to take advantage of residents during the yuletide season.

He also indicated that arrest numbers would be released later by the Police authorities.

He assured residents of safety during the festive period with widespread security deployments, urging them to report suspicious activities.

According to him, security personnel have been deployed to maintain a 24-hour presence, as it is a multi-sectoral approach ensures that no corner of the FCT is left unmonitored, creating a seamless web of security that shifts fluidly from day to night.

By maintaining a visible presence on every major road, the team aims to ensure that the economic desperation of a few does not translate into pain for the law-abiding citizens of the FCT.

” Residents have begun to take notice, with many commuters applauding the Minister of the FCT for sustaining such a rigorous security presence. The sight of uniforms at regular intervals has provided a sense of relief for those traveling late,” he stated.

Ukachi Adebayo, Head of Social Development Secretariat (SDS) Enforcement, stated the focus of the Department is on tackling social challenges under the umbrella of Operation Sweep Abuja, by apprehending, training, or repatriating destitutes and beggars from the city.
