Drivers playing inter-state routes have been implementing 50 per cent discount on transport fares following President Bola Tinubu’s directives in reference to the renewed hope agenda.

The ministry said 128 travelers enjoyed 50 per cent discount on Christmas Day.

This was disclosed in a press release signed by Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Transportation Olujimi Oyetomi.

The statement partly read, “As ALBON co-opts NURTW, implementing 50% discount on transport fares at yuletide gets a boost, 128 Nigerians enjoy Tinubu’s Renewed Hope discount on Christmas Day.

“Implementing the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 50% discount on transport fares for Nigerians during the yuletide got a serious boost especially as one hundred and twenty-eight travellers from Abuja, who were bound for destinations in the North – Gombe, Bauchi, Yola and Maiduguri were freighted to their destinations paying only half of the transport fares charged for each of their destinations, as monitored by Federal Ministry of Transportation Situation Room Monitoring Team on Christmas Day.”

It said the Federal Ministry of Transportation’s Situation Room Monitoring Team observed that 128 individuals travelling from Abuja to destinations in the North including Gombe, Bauchi, Yola, and Maiduguri benefited from the generous discount on their transport fares.

It added, “Thanks to the proactive efforts of the Association of Luxury Bus Owners, travelers were able to enjoy a significant reduction in their transportation costs, with Clement Okuefuna overseeing the disbursement of the reimbursements at the Area 1 motor park in Abuja.

“Notably, ALBON’s collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers has effectively ensured that passengers are promptly refunded half of their fare payments upon boarding designated vehicles, thereby making the President’s transport palliative a reality.”

“The last 16-seater passenger bus which loaded, got its passenger refunded half of the transport fares paid back to them and heading for Bauchi and Maiduguri rounded off the operation at Area 1 Motor Park, Abuja.”

On Christmas Day, 16-seater buses bound for Gombe, Bauchi, Yola, and Maiduguri commenced loading as early as 5am, seeing passengers receive their well-deserved reimbursements before embarking on their journeys.

The ministry said the seamless execution of the transport discount initiative symbolizes the hope for a brighter future in the nation.
