Yuletide: Kano State Police Promises Safety, Warns Against Road Blockage

The Police in Kano State, Northwest Nigeria has promised to ensure adequate protection of lives and property during the festive period.

In a press statement the commands Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa said the Police would achieve that through collaboration with other security agencies.

He said; “the Commissioner of Police CP Salman Dogo at a meeting, directed all Departmental Heads, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and other Supervising Officers to ensure adequate security at worship centres and recreational facilities in the state.”

According to Kiyawa, “the police will also ensure Round-the-clock visibility patrols, effective traffic control for smooth flow of traffic throughout the state as well and widening of channels of intelligence gathering ahead of the festive periods.”

He said; “The Command has cautioned residents to avoid suspicious objects and refrain from carrying unnecessary objects that may trigger suspicion or apprehension when going to worshipping centres. Be vigilant and report any suspicious person, movement, or item to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s Emergency Numbers.

“All forms of unauthorised horse riding are prohibited and the use of fireworks is completely banned throughout the state.”

The Kano Police has also warned against obstruction of highways by social events creators disrupting public order, saying, such acts are against the law of the land.

He urged individuals and groups involved in such activities to desist and Parents to caution their wards against participating in such activities.

He said; “The Kano State police command has observed with concern the recent trend of youths blocking roads in Kano, engaging in dancing, washing, singing, and other activities in the name of social media content creation.

“These actions are not only causing unnecessary traffic congestion but also posing a significant risk to public safety.”

SP Kiyawa said the Command is committed to maintaining public safety.

He advised the public to report any instances of highway obstruction or disruption of public order to the nearest police stations for action.
