The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has warned person(s) against the use of fireworks, firecrackers or any other explosive devices during the festive periods.

According to him, the ban on such explosive device is still in force.

“The command understands the excitement and passion that accompanies these celebrations.
However, it is imperative to maintain law and order; respecting the rights and well being of others in our community,” the police boss further emphasized.
Olaiya, in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, urged citizens of the state to refrain from acts that may disrupt the peace and tranquility within the neighborhood.
He warned against the use of dangerous or harmful devices, stressing that it can lead to extensive damage to properties, severe injuries or pose as a threat to safety and security of citizens, and disturbance of public peace. He further warned that anyone caught in this act will be made to face the wrath of the law.
The police commissioner further enjoined citizens to be law-abiding, shunning all forms of criminal acts as he had ordered that all area commanders, divisional police officers, and heads of tactical units in the command provide maximum security within their areas of responsibility before, during and after the yuletide.
Olaiya wished all abiding citizens in the state a joyous Christmas and a blissful New Year.
“We can celebrate responsibly together with our loved ones and make this festive season a memorable and safe experience for all,” he reiterated.
He urged the good people of the state to join hands in fostering a peaceful and harmonious co-existence by reporting any suspicious movement of person(s) or people to the nearest police station or via these emergency telephone numbers: 08125275046 or 07032069501.
