Yuletide: Lagos State To Enforce Safety, Environment Infractions

The Lagos State government has reiterated its commitment to ensure a hitch-free Christmas and New year celebrations with comprehensive monitoring and enforcement of public places.

The State affirmed that adequate measures have been in place to allow funseekers and holiday makers have a safe, fun-filled and memorable experiences.

Speaking through the Lagos State Safety Commission, LSC and the Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, the government announced that it would activate a joint enforcement and monitoring across the state, especially at social centres to ensure strict compliance to the safety and environmental laws.

These centres include bars and lounges, event centres, night clubs, parks, gardens, children play areas amongst other locations with high human traffic.

A statement jointly signed by the agencies reads;

“To this end the general public is hereby notified that in a bid to facilitate a hazard and accident-free yuletide and ensure strict compliance to extant safety and environment laws, regulations and guidelines, the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC) in conjunction with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) will be carrying out joint monitoring and enforcement operations across the State, especially at social centres.”

The agencies said that environmental and advocacy campaign programme tagged “Socialize Responsibly ‘has commenced with the aim to address overcrowding, fire safety measures, noise pollution, as well promote general safety, environmental awareness and moderation during the yuletide season.

Consequently, members of the public were urged to report any Safety and Environmental infractions observed during the festivities to the agencies through the following numbers 07000SAFETY for Safety Commission and 07046351295 for LASEPA.
