Yuletide: Nigerians Urged To Show Love

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu on Monday hosted the annual Nine Lessons and Carols Service, themed “Immanuel, Our Restorer of Hope” at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

The gathering of notable Nigerians and leaders of faith featured the reading of mine lessons from the Holy Bible by personalities, including former Head of State, retired General Yakubu Gowon Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyeosom Wike, President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede.

The First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu took the 8th lesson.

In his sermon titled “Let Brotherly Love Continue,” Vice President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Baba Panya emphasized the importance of compassion and kindness in a world often marked by division.

He, therefore, called on Christians to embody the spirit of love that defines the season. 

Rev Payan urged Christians to let brotherly love continue and to entertain strangers, as some have unknowingly hosted angels.

 He, therefore, enjoined Nigerians to show love to one another, devoid of religious or ethnic differences.

“This season invites us to reflect on how we can show love to those around us.

“Your neighbour is anyone who requires your help. Let us show love to anyone in need of our help,’’ he said.

The cleric highlighted that Christmas is fundamentally about love. 

“We live in an age where many seek miracles, signs and wonders. While we celebrate these miracles, signs and wonders, the greatest proof of our spirituality remains our capacity for love,” he added.

 Other notable personalities that attended the service were the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and his wife, The Head of Service of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, Ministers, Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, Traditional Rulers, the Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs and members of the Diplomatic Corps among others.
