The wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, has charged women from across the state to use the Christmas period to reflect on the goodness of God and share the little they have with others who may not have as much as they do.
Makinde said this at the 2022 End-of-Year-Party, where she hosted hundreds of women and women groups from across all the local governments areas of the state, held at the Presidential Lodge of the Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
She disclosed that the event was organised to bring together women and groups that are working around women and children concerns, to appreciate them for their efforts, while also reflecting on activities in the year 2022, saying caring for women means caring for everyone indirectly and caring for the family, the state and the nation, by extension.
The Oyo State First Lady admonished the women in the state not to focus on peripheral things but ensure they reflect on what God has done for them and their families, urging them not to see themselves as better than those who do not have as much as they do.
She said: “The Christmas season for us is really to be thankful and share love. Many of us might think that we do not have enough for ourselves, so there is no need to share the little we have. But I will say to you, my dear women, so long you have something, you are better than those who do not have. So let us learn to share the little we have with one another for God loves us and also loves cheerful givers.
“When we share, there is love in sharing, God himself shared his only begotten son with us, which is the essence of Christmas. Therefore, let us share the little we have with one or two people this Christmas season. Share with them and show them that they are loved because you represent God around them,” Makinde explained.
Presenting gifts of food items and cash to the women, Mrs Makinde appreciated her husband, Governor Seyi Makinde, for providing the items to the women, impacting in their lives and showing that women are important, encouraging the women to go home and share with their neighbours, as nothing is too small when shared with love.
In her remark, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, pleaded with the women to come out and support the re-election of Governor Makinde as the nation moves to the election period, admonishing the women to reflect on the performance of the present administration and support it at the polls, come 2023.
Sanni stated: “We are getting to the season and we don’t want people to be at the edge, come and support us because the governor has been doing wonders. He is a performing governor and we want all of you from your locality, from your grassroot to support Engineer Seyi Makinde in his re-election bid.”
While responding to the kind gesture of the Governor’s wife, the beneficiaries appreciated the first lady for her kindness towards the women of the state in ensuring they have a joyous Christmas celebration.
A beneficiary, Lady Evangelist Seyifunmi Adesope, said: “I am very excited by the gesture of the wife of our governor. She has never disappointed in giving gifts every year. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless her abundantly.”
Another beneficiary, the wife of the Chairman of Akinyele Local Government Area, Mrs Ajarah Jimoh, also appreciated the gesture, saying: “I appreciate our mother for these gifts of food items and cash. We are indeed grateful for her kind gesture. We pray that she will never lack.”
Dignitaries present at the event were the wife of the Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs Ajibola Lawal; the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun; the Commissioner for Special Duties, Faosat Sanni; the Head of Service, Amidat Agboola and the Director General, Due Process, Ms Tara Adefowope, among others.
