Zimbabwe has it will quarantine travelers who come into the country without genuine COVID-19-free certificates obtained within 48 hours.
Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said this during a post-cabinet media briefing.
“Noting the need to guarantee convenience to the traveling public, Cabinet reiterates that all travelers coming into the country are required to submit COVID-19-free certificates obtained 48 hours before date of departure and obtained from a World Health Organization-certified laboratory. Those who arrive without these requirements will be quarantined,” Mutsvangwa said.
Zimbabwe is recording a surge in COVID-19 cases after the reopening of schools and borders.
As of Tuesday, the country had recorded 11,358 COVID-19 cases, 9,554 recoveries and 309 deaths.
Last week, Zimbabwean police arrested two people who were allegedly found with fake COVID-19 certificates at the country’s northern border of Chirundu amid increasing reports of some people selling fake COVID-19 certificates, including at public hospitals, in the country.
The border post is one of several gateways between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
