The organized labour in Kwara State North Central Nigeria has lauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for approving the 2021 and 2022 promotion exercises for workers in the state-owned parastatals.

The labour movement said the approval was apt and timely in view of the expectations of the affected employees in the concerned government establishments to seamlessly move from one cadre of service to another as and when due.

This was contained in a joint statement signed by the state Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Muritala Saheed Olayinka, and the Chairman, Joint Negotiation Council (JNC), Comrade Salihu Oluwole Suleiman, a copy of which was made available to Journalists in Ilorin.

The labour said the approval of the promotion exercises attested to the personality of Governor AbdulRazaq as a listening leader, who is empathetic to the plight of the state workforce.

They expressed optimism that the promotion would enhance productivity and stimulate and encourage service delivery from the beneficiaries.

The organized labour, however, appealed to workers in the state-owned parastatals, who will enjoy the gesture, to put in their best and justify the trust of the state government in them.

They reminded Governor AbdulRazaq of the urgent need to approve the weigh-in allowance for staff of the state-owned media Houses including Radio Kwara, Kwara Television and The Herald Newspapers for improved performance.

The Labour leaders urged the government to pay hazard and uniform allowance for workers in Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), N12million outstanding arrears of salary for former staffers of Kwara Express and 2023 promotion across the board.

The organized labour called for the resuscitation of annual increment across the board for workers in the state and as well as N35,000 wage award for all employees in the state.
