Arsenal Goes Four Points Clear After Bournemouth Victory

Arsenal went four points clear at the top of the Premier League table after a 3-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium in London, England.

The host started Kai Harvertz in attack, with Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard supporting on the flanks. For the visitors, Dominic Solanke led the line while Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo were on the wings.

Bournemouth’s resistance was broken when Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard played in Havertz, who drew contact from goalkeeper Mark Travers before going to ground. A penalty was arwarded after a lengthy VAR check before Saka stepped up and converted from the spot.

In the second half, Leandro Trossard extended the lead for Arsenal to the give the lead leaders a comfortable lead against a resilient Bournemouth side.

The visitors had a goal ruled out after that, with VAR upholding referee David Coote’s decision to penalise Dominic Solanke for a foul on goalkeeper David Raya, before Declan Rice added a stoppage-time third to put the result beyond doubt for Arsenal.

The victory, Arsenal’s fourth in a row, maintains their title charge and puts the pressure back on Manchester City, who are yet to play.

Arsenal are on 83 points from 36 games while champions Manchester City are on 79 from 34 games ahead of their home clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers later on Saturday.

“We played probably the best first half we’ve played all season. We could have gone three, four, five easily. We scored one,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said.

“Then credit to Bournemouth they changed things and the game became more open which we wanted to avoid.”

Arsenal continue their title bid at Manchester United on Sunday May 12th, before they end the season at home to Everton on Sunday, May 19th.

Bournemouth host Brentford in their last home game of the season on Saturday May 11th and then face Chelsea on the last day of the season on May 19th.
