2023 Census: Commission Inaugurates Committees in Anambra State

The National Population Commission, NPC in collaboration with Anambra State Government have inaugurated State and Local government level Security, Logistics and Publicity Committees for the 2023 population and housing census.

The inauguration which was done by the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, took place at the secretary to the state Government Hall, in Awka on Thursday.

The Anambra State federal Commissioner, National population commission, Mr Chidi Ezeoke stated that the over-arching vision of the commission was to produce not only accurate, reliable and acceptable census data but also an inclusive and user- friendly data that would be used by all segments of Nigeria and international partners for development planning and critical programme interventions.

The Commission will deploy full digital technology in the conduct of the Census and it will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the results of the Census is acceptable to not only Ndi – Anambra but also Nigeria at large and the quality of the data generated meets international standards,” he stated.

The Governor, Who was represented by the SSG, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu reiterated the importance of the 2023 Census for nation, state and grassroots building.

“The last census in 2006 really showed that the Igbos really shot themselves on the foot by refusing to be counted fully,” he noted.

The Anambra State Director, NPC, Dr Ulasi O. J, commended the support by the Anambra State Government to the seamless preparation of the forthcoming census tagged *YOU COUNT, BE COUNTED*

“It is my utmost believe that with the continued support of the state government, in addition to the present inauguration of the state level security, logistics, and Publicity Committees for 2023 population and housing census, coupled with the activities of other stakeholders in this country and more especially” Ndi Anambra” a digital, credible, verifiable, reliable and acceptable census,” he  reiterated.

In attendance were the State Commissioners for Information and Culture and Entertainment, all heads of service; The Army, police, immigration, civil defense, correctional service, state co-ordinator NYSC members of the media amongst others.
