2023 Election: Bola Tinubu meets APC governors

In a meeting held in Abuja, a chieftain in Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared his intentions to run for Presidency to the party’s Governors.

The meeting which had about 12 APC Governors in attendance happening hours after the Nigerian Vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo met with the same Governors and also publicly declared his intentions to contest for the president.

According to Mr. Tinubu, his ambition is to replace President Muhammadu Buhari.

“My mission here is to seek collaboration, support and encouragement of my party, the APC, for my ambition to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as replacement for President Muhammadu Buhari after his tenure, Tinubu said.

Meanwhile speaking on the declaration of Vice President Osinbajo who will be in the ring with Tinubu and other presidential aspirants in the party, the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Governor Abubakar Bagudu said it was a hallmark of success for the party to have so many eminent people aspiring for Presidency.

“The fact that we have people in our party that express desire to lead the party into the highest office in electoral contest shows how much this our party has resonated with Nigerians and our party members. 

“For us, it is a hallmark of success that people are showing interest, but at the end of the day and because they are leaders of the party, they will always put the party’s interest at heart, Governor Bagudu said.

Governor Bagudu further advised Nigerians not to have a negative perception of consensus explaining that the party will use democratic processes; either consensus or otherwise to select its presidential candidate.

The race for 2023 presidential election in Nigeria has started and amongst the bigwigs in the Nigerian governing party, APC to publicly declare intentions are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, Governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and Former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha.
