As the Federal Capital Territory FCT, prepares for its Area Council elections, Dr. Barry Johnson has officially declared his intention to run for Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the 2026 elections under the Labour Party.
Addressing Journalists in Abuja after picking his nomination and expression of interest form at the national headquarters of the Labour Party, Dr. Johnson promised to inject fresh energy into the political landscape. With a focus on good governance, reduced corruption, and community-driven policies.

“The future of AMAC is not in the hands of politicians—it’s in the hands of the people,” Johnson concluded.
He laid out a bold 13-point agenda that centers on integrity, inclusiveness, and people-oriented development giving priorities to free and compulsory education, affordable healthcare and improved security, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure development, cultural tourism promotion, soft loans for traders and vulnerable groups and reduction in government spending.
“I believe in leading with transparency, accountability, and honesty,” Johnson declared.
“The people of AMAC deserve leadership that serves, not exploits them.”
The event drew attendees from various wards and area councils, with leaders applauding Johnson’s vision and his courage to challenge the status quo.
