Athletics: Favour Ofili Finishes Second At LSU Alumni Gold Meet
Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili ran her fastest 100m in all conditions, finishing 2nd in heat 1 of women’s 100m during the LSU Alumni GOLD meet at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Los Angeles, USA.
Ofili clocked 10.90s (+4.2) to finish 2nd behind Aleia Hobbs who won, pulling ahead in 10.84s. Mikiah Brisco clocked an identical 10.90s as Ofili to finish 3rd.
After a slow start, Ofili was left trailing. However, she somehow clawed her way back into the race to finish 2nd in her 100m heat.

Prosper Nnamdi Chinecherem (Javelin)
Prosper Nnamdi Chinecherem misses the Nigerian National Record (NR) by just 1cm as he lands a massive 81.07m in the ongoing men’s Javelin Throw during the Michael Johnson Invitational at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium in Texas, USA.
Chinecherem therefore becomes only the 2nd Nigerian man ever to throw past 80m in the event. The NR of 81.08m was set by Pius Bazighe at the Athens Grand Prix in 1999.
In 2018 when Prosper Chinecherem started throwing the Javelin competitively, his best mark was 57.57m. Now in 4yrs, he has come very close to that NR, missing out by 1cm. Pius Bazighe threw two official 80m marks in his time, Nnamdi has now thrown it once this year.
Ese Brume
Ese Brume has just landed a big 7.08m in the women’s Long Jump at the LSU Alumni Gold, what would have passed for the biggest jump in the world this season, but for the 2.5m/s tailwind. She is currently ahead of USA’s Quanesha Burks who has jumped 6.88m (2.5).

Ese Brume also competed in the women’s 200m where she clocked a 24.02s.
Raymond Ekevwo
African Champion, Raymond Ekevwo ran the fastest time by a Nigerian man this season with 10.04s (1.9) to win the men’s 100m at the Michael Johnson Invitational, ahead of Isaiah Cunningham, 2nd in 10.19s and Jacoby Shelton in 10.21s.
He becomes the 2nd Nigerian man to get a time qualifier to the Worlds in the event after Enoch Adegoke.
Rosemary Chukwuma (200m)
Rosemary Chukwuma beat Tamara Clark to the win in the women’s 200m at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Baylor, running a time of 22.97s (2.1) to the American’s 23.04s.
Tynia Gaither was 3rd in 23.23s. Meanwhile, Imaobong Nse Uko won her own 200m heat in 23.60s.
Nathaniel Ezekiel (400m Hurdles)
Nigerian athlete Nathaniel Ezekiel clocked a time of 49.35s in the men’s 400m Hurdles at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Baylor.
It is his 3rd fastest time yet, behind his teammate Jayson Baldridge who took over the NCAA Lead from him with 49.10s. Khallifah Rosser won in a World Leading 48.26s.
