Nigeria’s Centre for Control of Small Arms seeks collaboration with NSCDC

The National Coordinator of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), Abba Mohammed Dikko has called for collaboration with the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the areas of intelligence sharing, data collection and arms control in Nigeria.

He made the call when he paid a courtesy call to the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi at the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.

General Dikko who is the pioneer National Coordinator, acquainted the Commandant-General with the core functions and objectives of the NCCSALW.

According to him, the Centre has been working assiduously in the delivery of its mandate and is willing and ready to work hand in hand with the NSCDC and other security agencies to ensure that illegal arms in the hands of unauthorized persons are recovered in order to restore law and order in the country.

He further stressed that leveraging the existing capacities of the NSCDC and other security agencies would go a long way to strengthen coordination and build the capacity of relevant stakeholders on their responsibilities under the Small Arms and Light Weapons management paradigm.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi who applauded the Centre, stated that the creation of the Centre is all in the interest of peace and security as well as crime prevention and control.

He appreciated the Pioneer National Coordinator and his team for their tireless efforts towards achieving the Centre’s mandate.

In view of the increasing spread of illicit weapons in the country which has greatly impacted the state of national security, Ahmed Abubakar Audi expressed delight in the opportunity to support the Centre in the discharge of its duties

He also pledged to give his full support to the Centre, adding that the fight against illicit arms is a must and can only be won through collaborations with relevant stakeholders.
