Some members of the National Working Committee, NWC of the governing All Progressives Congress APC have distanced themselves from the report that its National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu has endorsed the Senate President Ahmed Lawan as the APC Presidential Candidate.

It may be recalled that earlier on Momday, the eve to the APC National Convention/ Presidential Primary reports that filtered from the meeting of the NWC stated that the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu had endorsed Senate President Ahmed Lawan as the APC Presidential Candidate.

The APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, who spoke on behalf of the members at a press briefing said endorsing the Senate President was a sole opinion of the National Chairman and not a collective decision of the party’s National Working Committee.

Our National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu did brief us that the Senate President Ahmed Lawan is our consensus candidate for the APC National Convention and that is just the information he gave us but it’s not an issue that has been discussed on the floor of the NWC. It is not an issue that has to be deliberated on the floor of the NWC, it is an information and all of us are entitled to our opinion, we are all democrats. This decision was never taken by the NWC” Argungu said.

Argungu added that the NWC members are aligned with the recent decision of the Northern Governors Forum to zone the presidency to the Southern geopolitical region of Nigeria.

Like you are all aware just recently, about two days ago, the northern Governors had their meeting and they said the leadership of this country should go to the South and equally the southern Governors affirmed that so we as members of the NWC, we are also with the Governors on what they have said” Argungu said.
