Ahead of the International Peace and Prayer day slated to take place on June 21, 2022, over 100 Muslim and Christian clergies from the 19 northern states of Nigeria are being mobilised to offer special prayers for peace and unity during the 2023 general election.

The general overseer of Christ’s Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry, Pastor Yohanna Buru, made the statement to mark this year’s peace and prayer day celebration in Kaduna State.

According to him, his organisation mobilised the team of pastors and Imams across the country for a gathering themed, “Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria,” on the need to embark on prayers.

As the 2023 general election approaches, all the senatorial, gubernatorial, and presidential aspirants need prayers for God’s guidance, success, and victory, and hence the need for all faith base clerics to organize prayer for all the candidates irrespective of their political parties.

“We pray that may almighty God Give them wisdom on how to best represent everyone in the country irrespective of tribe, culture, religion, or region.

“God gives our leaders wisdom that they may do things beyond their understanding. Help them choose the right path when they decide on behalf of this nation.”

Buru noted that every year on June 21, during the summer solstice, World Peace and Prayer Day encourages people of all faiths and nations to pray for the planet. It’s also a day to learn more about Mother Earth and inspire youths to care for the environment.

He continued by stating that they pray for all the gubernatorial and presidential candidates while encouraging them to seek God’s guidance and protection before, during, and after the general election.

He added that they pray that candidates would have listening ears and soft hearts to promote Girl-child education, boost agricultural activities, and improve medical health.

Buru said they pray for candidates to address poverty, crime, employment, banditry, kidnapping, Boko haram, IPOP, and general insecurity issues bordering the country.

“we pray for strength and encouragement of our leaders and election candidates,” he stated.

Mohammed Sani, one of the Islamic clerics in Kaduna, also called on Muslims and Christians to always pray for their leader.

Stating that it is suitable for all citizens to support their leaders with prayers so that God would help him deliver. He then called on politicians to stop using thugs during their political campaigns.

While appealing to concerned citizens and non-Governmental organisation for sustainable democracy, they should continuously sensitise the public on ways to conduct a credible election.

Recalled that in 1996, Chief Arvol Looking Horse began conducting the annual World Peace and Prayer Day during the summer solstice.
