The leadership of the Nigerian Senate is meeting behind closed doors with Heads of Security agencies, over the lingering insecurity in the country.
The meeting, chaired by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan is being attended by other principal officers of the Senate and chairmen of security-related committees.
Speaking before the closed-door meeting, Senator Lawan declared that; “Nigeria is at a crossroads and its very existence is under threat, owing to the growing insecurity in the country.“
He also told the security chiefs that the level of insecurity was becoming frightening.
Senator Lawan noted that the key area of concern to Nigerians as well as the public expectation is to see a drastic and immediate improvement in the security situation.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor who noted that issues of National Security must be seen from a collective perspective, said that a lot has happened and more was being done to improve the security situation of the country.
The meeting was at the instance of the Senate leadership in view of the more worrisome dimension security challenges have taken, with a view to coming up with practicable solutions.
The Security Chiefs in attendance are, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, the commandant general of the Civil Defence Corps, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, and the Director General of the Department of State Service.
