International Railway Conference to hold in November

Both local and international stakeholders are to gather in Abuja between November 15th to 16th to review how railway modernisation can contribute to the implementation of African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

 

In a statement Signed by Olayemi John-Mensah, Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Media/Strategy Officer for the organisers in Abuja, the event was shifted from August to November following requests from international stakeholders who are desirous of participation in the event.

 

The conference with the theme, “Powering AfCFTA with Sustainable Railway Development” is organised by the Federal Ministry of Transportation in partnership with the National Chamber Policy Centre and African Railway Consulting Limited.

 

The conference is to also brainstorm on fast tracking rail connectivity to meet the demands of African Continental Free Trade Area with major issues to include attracting needed financing, imperative of continental railway standardisation and the urgency of closer economic bloc collaboration in the railway development process.

 

The high-profile event which would attract Chief Executive Officers of continental development banks, donor partners, Ministers of Transport within and outside Africa, potential investors, investment financiers, railway consortiums, rolling stock manufacturers, leasing companies among others would be a veritable platform to showcase investment possibilities especially within the context of African emphasis on rail connectivity to drive the African Continental Free Trade Area.
