The Clerk to the House of Representatives Dr Yahaya Danzaria says the best way to maintain optimum performance and productivity in any system or organization is to empower the workers that form the pillars of the institution or organization.
The Clerk made the remark at a Three-day Training Workshop organised by the management of the House of Representatives for legislative staff in Abuja.
Dr Danzaria observed that empowerment strengthen staff and build strong institutions.
He stated that the capacity of a legislative staff is so much enhanced through the trainings and guidance received by the employee on the job after his or her employment
“Through this capacity building, we build strong institutions, and make them work. I have no doubt that at the end of the programme, the beneficiaries will be better equipped for greater service to the legislature and the Nigerian state. I am equally gratified by the support and the presence of the media to all our activities since we started. This friendship will remain mutual and everlasting,” Dr Danzariya said.
He said that in the legislature, capacity building is the process of developing an strengthening the skills of officers that the legislative institution needed survive and compete favourably with other parliaments across the globe.
The Clerk therefore urged all participants to the workshop to listen to the experts and to gain more knowledge and experience that would impact further in their daily call to duty.
The Executive Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Mr. Ahmed Amshi, noted that the commission would ensure continuous training for members of staff of the National Assembly to enhance their capacity and ensure an efficient lawmaking process.
The theme of the workshop was “Enhancing Capacity For Legislative Services.“
The workshop targeted the core legislative officers in the areas of Chamber Services,
Table Duties, Rules and Business, Legislative Scrutiny and Committee System among others.
