The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River state, southern Nigeria, has adopted the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate, Brian Odey, for the House of Assembly election on March 11, 2023 to represent Yala 1 constituency.
The chairman of the APC in the state, Mr. Alphonsus Eba, made the announcement at the Ernest Etim-Bassey Press Centre in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, sequel to the decision of the Supreme Court, which annulled the candidacy of the member representing Yala 1 state constituency on the All Progressives Congress’ platform in the House of Assembly, Mrs. Regina Anyogo.
Eba explained that the APC’s decision to adopt the LP candidate was “due to the fact that the Supreme Court did not allow for another party primary in the constituency and as such decided to adopt Brian Odey.
“Of all the candidates, Odey remains a candidate with an ideology similar to ours.”
In a brief remark, the LP candidate expressed appreciation to the APC, particularly Yala 1 state constituency for adopting him as their candidate:
“I’m very happy to have a national party like the APC endorse me. It is not a bad thing.”
Similarly, the a former chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a one-time leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly representing Boki One state constituency, Alex Ebu, used the occasion to announce his movement to the APC and support for the candidacy of Senator Bassey Otu.
Ebu, who served during the administration of Liyel Imoke from 2007 to 2011, said “my decision to decamp to the APC is my belief in the drive of the governor, Professor Ben Ayade, to deliver on his promises including the completion of the Boki East-West Road, which will greatly open up the area to agro-economic businesses.”
