The governor, during a discussion with a delegation of the Coalition of Funtua Community-Based Organizations in Abuja, accepted to site the University in Funtua. Funtua Local Government Area, which is among the 11 LGAs in Katsina South Senatorial zone, has no higher institution. The university was among the newest approved by the former President, Major General Muhammad Buhari (retd.) before leaving office in May 2023.
Radda, while commending the delegates, revealed that Funtua had played a vital role in the history and development of Katsina State. He also commended the coalition’s expression of readiness to provide a temporary site for the university’s take-off and provision of a proposed permanent site to be handed over to the Federal Government.
Alhaji Umar Faruq-Mutallab, speaking earlier on behalf of the delegation, congratulated Radda on his emergence as the 5th democratically-elected governor of the state. He said that they were in Abuja to seek his support for the siting of the University in Funtua. He also added that such a move would justify Radda’s commitment to delivering on his promises to run an inclusive government by ensuring equity and justice for all the people of the state.
He also revealed that Funtua, which is the headquarters of Funtua Zone, enjoys a sizable population and also has several good schools that can feed the new university. He also applauded Radda’s strides, saying they are forming a solid foundation that would guarantee successful implementation of people-centred policies targeted at improving the welfare and socio-economic activities of the people of Katsina.
