Borno State NYSC Orientation Camp Re-opens After 13 years

The Borno State NYSC orientation camp has been re-opened to newly posted youth Corp members, after 13 years of closure due to the exigencies of insurgents in the State.

The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum witnessed the swearing-in ceremony and declared open the orientation camp of the NYSC 2023 batch B stream 2 members, for their one-year national service in the State.

Zulum spoke at the gathering by expressing his delight and thanking Almighty God for such an opportunity.

“I warmly congratulate and welcome you all to Borno State, this is a stepping stone to unlock a wide range of opportunities for you and the people of Borno. Many of us can recall for about 13 years the NYSC orientation programme was close due to the exigencies of boko Haram, but by the grace of Almighty Allah and the gallantry of our Military, Police, DSS, Civil Defence Corp and other paramilitary establishment as well as voluntary organisations, CJTF hunters and vigilantes, they secured the peace that enable us to gather here and make this orientation possible for these young Nigerian men and women.”

 

The governor further stated that the long-awaited desire to form a formidable partnership with the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) for a new Borno State has become a reality.

He reiterated that his administration is aware of all the welfare need and will ensure the new youth Corp members outshine the previous Corp members in the state.

The governor also asked the state NYSC commander to embark on the reconstruction of the NYSC permanent site as it was raised as one of the hindering challenges of the organisation.

The governor urged the camp managers to work closely with the Borno State officials with a view to selecting medical doctors and other health related courses so that the government will engage them soon

The state coordinator of Borno NYSC, comrade Mohammed Jiva commended the governor’s role in facilitating the return of Orientation Course to Borno state and for providing all the necessary facilities that made this day a reality.

“Your Excellency sir, distinguished invited guests, I am pleased to inform you, that a total of 1,125 Prospective Corps Members were registered comprising 629 males and 496 females respectively. Of this number, no one has reported any case of security threat to life and property in the course of their respective journeys to Borno States.”

He also acknowledged the support of the Theatre Commander, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Maj Gen GU Ndubuisi, the GOC, 7 Division, Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maj Gen PP Malla and the Garrison Commander, Brig Gen TM Opurun in ensuring the success of the event.
