President Tinubu re-affirms stance on Tax Reforms

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his stance on the proposed tax reforms expressing the commitment of his administration to implement the comprehensive tax reforms to the benefit of all citizens.

The President who made this known during his first media chat held in Ikoyi, Lagos State, explained that the reforms aim to modernise the tax system, expand the revenue base, and support the nation’s developmental goals.

He also stated that the tax reforms are key to Nigeria’s economic transformation.

“Tax reforms is here to stay we cannot just continue to do what we were doing yesteryear in today’s economy, we cannot retool this economy with old groping volts, I believe I have that capacity I am focusing on what Nigeria needs and what I must do for Nigerians it will not be Eldorado for everybody but a new dawn is here I am convinced and you should be convinced too.”

The President emphasised that the tax reforms are inclusive and designed to relieve the poor while also targeting the expansion of the tax net instead of burdening low-income earners.

“All we ask for is to widen the net, make the cake larger so we can share a larger meal,” he explained.

The Nigerian Leader highlighted the essence of ending several decades of taxes, he described them as ineffective for Nigeria’s current economic realities.

He also underscored the need to address tax evasion, stating, “You cannot satisfy a larger community of tax invaders.”

The President asserted that his administration is focused on making tough but necessary decisions to stabilise the economy.

“A hallmark of a good leader is to do what needs to be done at the right time. I believe I have the capacity,” 

The President added that the tax reforms represent a “new dawn” for Nigeria.

While acknowledging that the transition will not be easy for everyone, President Tinubu underscored the importance of staying the course.

“It will not be El Dorado for everyone, but I am laser-focused on what Nigeria needs and what I must do for Nigerians,” he said.

Reducing Cost Of Governance

In response to questions on the reduction of his cabinet members, the President dismissed criticism of their performance, he asserted that the ministers are all contributing significantly to his administration and effectively delivering results in given tasks.

“Nigeria is a large country let us pay attention to efficiency and effectiveness is the hub and the philosophy of my cabinet I am not ready to shrink a bit they are all adding value, show me one and I will argue with you

“I am not prepared to bring down the size of my cabinet I saw the need when input them together and you cannot give people assignments they cannot fulfil.”

President Tinubu concluded by expressing confidence in the direction of his administration, urging Nigerians to embrace the changes necessary for long-term prosperity.
