The Nigerian Government has launched a digital portal to ease teachers’ registration, certification, and professional development while strengthening educational standards in line with global benchmarks.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, unveiled the portal in Abuja, describing it as a renewal of Nigeria’s commitment to teachers, their dignity, growth, and the nation’s future development.

“No nation can rise above the quality of its teachers, and as such, there is a need to pay close attention to teacher development.
The TRCN portal will serve as a comprehensive platform to facilitate seamless registration, licensing, and renewal of teachers nationwide,” Alausa said.
He explained that the platform will also enable examination scheduling, professional development tracking, and serve as a national database for teachers’ performance and career progression.
According to him, the initiative is anchored on five pillars: professionalisation, digitalisation, accountability, equity, and global alignment.
The Minister further announced the introduction of a mandatory Teacher Ethics and Criminal Record Verification Framework, noting that no teacher would henceforth be employed in public or private schools without thorough ethical screening and background checks.
“This is not punitive; it is protective. It is about safeguarding our children and upholding the moral integrity of our classrooms,” he stressed.
Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Ronke Soyombo, said the platform would improve data management and address long-standing complaints about delays in processing certificates and licences.
She revealed that qualified candidates of the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) can now access their results and certificates within one week of the exam.
“With this portal, teachers across Nigeria can conveniently register, access their results, and print their certificates from the comfort of their homes without visiting state offices,” she said.
Soyombo added that the TRCN has streamlined the PQE curriculum from 23 subjects to five core areas: foundational mathematics, literacy, digital literacy, safeguarding, and pedagogy. By October, the council will launch an Artificial Intelligence-powered lesson plan generator.
“This innovation will provide teachers with simulated and contextualised instructional materials, making learning more engaging for pupils,” she explained.
She projected that the launch of the portal would lead to a 50 percent increase in TRCN-certified teachers, improved child protection, and global benchmarking for Nigeria’s teaching profession.
Director of Programmes at the British Council, Chikodi Onyemerela, described the portal as a milestone in transforming Nigeria’s education system.
Ian Attfield, Senior Education Adviser at the British High Commission, said the system would strengthen data management and enhance teachers’ motivation.
Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Mohammed Isa, urged that the platform must be inclusive of persons with disabilities by incorporating screen readers, sign language support, and digital braille, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Chief Executive Officer of TeckPlus Digital Solutions, Patrick Adeneye, whose company designed the portal, noted that it would drastically reduce bottlenecks around certification and licensing while improving accuracy in teacher data.
“Before now, Nigeria lacked reliable data on the number of certified and qualified teachers. This affected learning outcomes. The new system ensures efficiency, security, and accountability in teacher management,” he said.
He assured that the portal had been fortified against hacking and integrated into the broader Education Management Information System (EMIS) agenda of the Ministry of Education.
