The Kano State Government has announced the maiden edition of the Kano Festival of Arts and Culture (KANFEST), a grand festival of arts and culture aimed at showcasing the rich heritage, creativity, and identity of the people of Kano.

Announcing the event in a press statement on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the festival will be held from October 25 to 27, 2025, at the Kano Trade Fair Complex.

It is being organised by the Kano State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, under the coordination of the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam.

Waiya described KANFEST as a “melting pot of tradition and creativity,” designed to attract artists, cultural groups, investors, and visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.

With the theme “Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future,” the festival underscores the government’s commitment to protecting cultural values, promoting creative innovation, and fostering peace, unity, and economic development through culture.

“The people of Kano are proud custodians of history, and during these three days, history will come alive,” the commissioner stated. “Visitors will have the chance to experience the true essence of Kano, its art, food, music, and craftsmanship, all on one stage.”

Highlights of the festival will include Wrestling the Old Kano Way, a display of traditional strength and valour, and Majema Tanning Artistry Revealed, celebrating Kano’s world-renowned leather industry.

Also, Dukawa Leather Craftsmanship, where innovation meets tradition, will be showcased among others.

Waiya noted that KANFEST goes beyond entertainment, describing it as a “cultural rebirth” that honours heritage while empowering the next generation.

“Through this festival, we are reviving our heritage, creating opportunities for cultural industries, and attracting investment to Kano. From festival to foreign direct investment, that is our vision,” he said.

He called on residents, Nigerians, and the international community to participate in the celebration, describing Kano as “the cradle of Hausa civilisation, a land of proud people and proud heritage where culture connects communities and inspires tomorrow.”
