The Kebbi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, under the leadership of Commissioner Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba, has continued to formulate policies, enact legislation, and implement programmes aimed at supporting, protecting, and empowering women and children across the state.
She said the ministry is responsible for women empowerment through skills acquisition programmes, protection of children’s rights, promotion of gender equality, and prevention of child abuse, child marriage, and domestic violence against women.
She said the achievements recorded by the ministry are not by coincidence, but are the result of carefully planned, people-oriented programmes designed to improve the lives of women and children in Kebbi State under the administration of Governor Dr Nasir Idris.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, said wives of the governor have remained actively involved in the training, skills acquisition, and empowerment of women and youths across the state.

Halima Hassan Kamba said the ministry has graduated orphans from care facilities, providing startup materials and financial support to help them establish businesses and become self-reliant. She also noted that feeding and welfare support for social welfare institutions has improved by over 200 per cent.
The commissioner also stated that since the start of the present administration, the state has been organising annual mass weddings for less privileged men and women, providing marriage and household materials to ease financial burdens. The initiative is aimed at promoting religious values, strengthening social cohesion, reducing social vices, and encouraging lawful marriages.
She noted that the administration renovated, upgraded, and commissioned a new orphanage known as the “Kauran Gwandu Children’s Home” located in Kawara. The facility now provides a more conducive environment for the care and upbringing of orphans and less privileged children.
The Commissioner emphasised that the ministry has consistently celebrated international events aimed at promoting the welfare and status of women.
She disclosed that the Kebbi State Government also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Bank under the Nigeria for Women Project. Under the initiative, about 150,000 women are expected to benefit from it, stating that five local government areas have been enrolled in the programme.
She also explained that in collaboration with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kebbi State Office, the ministry successfully repatriated more than 45 rescued trafficked children and reunited them with their families.
