Abuja International Film Festival gets 1,254 film submissions

The Founder of the Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF), Fidelis Duker has disclosed that 1,254 film submissions were received for the upcoming 21st edition of its annual fiesta slated for Oct.28 to Nov.1. He said this in an interview with the newsmen Thursday in Abuja.

According to him, the film entries came from 67 countries across the globe, and 82 of the total film submissions were selected, while 53 were nominated for awards. Duker said the festival would offer 18 categories of awards for nominated films, including Best Documentary (Features), Best Animation, Best Experimental, Best Feature Film(foreign), Best Feature Film (Indigenous) and Best Short Film Nigeria. Other categories include Best Student Film, Outstanding Male Actor, Outstanding  Actress, Best Film In Editing, as well as the highly coveted Golden Jury Film, among others.

 

According to him, the 2024 edition of AIFF, with the theme, “Bridging Cultures Through Cinemas”, will highlight the power of films in promoting the beauty of cultural diversity and acceptance.

“We believe that cinema has the power to transcend boundaries and bring people together, providing a platform for cross-cultural understanding and exchange.

He said the festival would feature screenings, a workshop campus, a panel discussion, an exclusive producers’ master class, an exhibition fashion show and a party award, among other highlights.
