Stakeholders have called for the revival of reading culture in Nigeria
They made the call during the launch of ten books written by Ibraheem Dooba in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The Vice Presidential candidate for the 2023 elections under the platform of All Progressives Congress APC, Senator Kashim Shetima who was represented by Muhammed Bulama expressed concern about the low reading culture in the country.
“Our writers and authors have been reduced to glorified court jesters, and such tragedy reflects in the quality of decisions being taken on our behalf.
“Every aspect of our society has been affected by this war against scholarship.”
On the importance of books, Shetima said, “Books exist to remind us that the past is a mirror we ignore at our peril” adding that “without books, we would’ve been long lost.
“Building a haven for the intellectual is our most practical and isn’t negotiable. I find solace in reading and getting transported across civilizations and generations.”
The Governor of Niger State Abubakar Sani, who was represented by his wife Amina, encouraged Nigerians to imbibe book reading culture by reading at least two books a month.
He congratulated the book author for writing and publishing ten books that are impactful to Nigerian readers.
Also, the book author, Ibraheem Dooba who was a one time journalist and now a cyber security expert said, he was inspired by the passion to build a better society through books.
He called on Nigerians to make best use of the books
