The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, at a pivotal congress meeting in Yola reaffirmed its commitment to unity, constitutional adherence, and ethical journalism.

At the congress, Chaired by Ishaka Dedan, deliberations were focused on internal matters and wider socio-political issues affecting the media landscape and the state.

The congress unanimously reaffirmed that the NUJ Constitution remains the guiding framework for all members, urging strict adherence to its provisions.

The congress ratified the Ibrahim Kado-led Correspondents’ Chapel, inducting both Kado (Chairman) and Nuhu Anselm Kyauta (Secretary) into the State Executive Council (SEC) of the NUJ.

In a significant disciplinary move, the congress cited Article 7, Section 3(d) of the NUJ Constitution in expelling Phineas Padio from the Union, because his media organization, Sahara Reporters, is not unionized.

Members were warned against associating with his dissident attitude, and a 7-man committee was inaugurated to recover all NUJ properties in his possession within one week.

A 3-member Electoral Committee was nominated ahead of the upcoming State NUJ elections, and their swearing-in is scheduled for Wednesday.

Chairman Ishaka Dedan was lauded for his six years of resilient leadership and dedication to the union’s affairs in Adamawa State

The congress praised the Adamawa State Governor, Amadu Fintiri, for infrastructural strides, particularly his provision of free dialysis services.

Members, however, urged the state to bolster public health measures as the hot season intensifies.

They also called for the timely distribution of farming inputs ahead of the planting season and for intensified public awareness on potential flooding.

Expressing concern over illegal mining activities in the Toungo Local Government Area of the State, the congress urged the state government to act swiftly to protect the region’s solid mineral resources.

The NUJ Adamawa Congress reaffirmed its commitment to journalistic integrity, unity among members, and the pursuit of a stronger, more responsible Union.
